Healthy Weights

Canadians are heavier now than ever before. The prevalence of overweight individuals and obesity has increased markedly in the past two decades. Changes in dietary and fitness habits, such as over-consumption and an increased sedentary lifestyle, have significantly contributed to the weight-gain epidemic.

Carbohydrate foods are an important part of healthy eating and are the main source of energy for most people. Include more whole grains breads and cereals, rice, pasta, vegetables and fruit as well as beans, peas and lentils in your meal plans.
