About Food Allergies

The safety of all our students at Western is a high priority, and every year our Residence Dining team safely accommodates countless students with food allergies and intolerances.

Our team has completed an on-line Food Allergy Canada endorsed training program (Allergen Training for Foodservice and Food Retail Industry) and are knowledgeable around the importance of food-safety in the prevention of cross-contamination, and know the possible complications that can arise when a food allergen is consumed by a person with an allergy.

Our over-arching message to students coming to Western with food allergies is to self-identify. Hospitality Services at Western University supports students living with food allergies. If you have a food allergy, please identify yourself to one of our staff. We will gladly work with you to help identify safe foods. Our Nutrition Manager is also available to help.

Healthy eating begins at the grocery store. Fill your cart with whole grain breads and cereals, rice and pasta, fruit and vegetables, milk and milk products, lean meat, poultry, fish, eggs and alternatives such as dried beans, peas and lentils. Read labels to guide your food choices.
