About Us

The iBEAN project is the brain child of the Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC) and the Ontario (White) Bean Producers Marketing Board. With financial support from Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc., Residence Dining at The University of Western Ontario has partnered on this project in the hopes of helping students recognize the many benefits (nutritional, economic and environmental) of consuming legumes (dried peas, beans and lentils). Also known to some as "pulses", this magical fruit has powers beyond belief.

Targeted primarily at first year Western students, iBEAN hopes to heighten your awareness of healthy eating through the use of beans in meal options and this iBEAN mico-site. Content pieces have been developed to provide the information needed to perhaps make a "bean believer" out of you!

Now a bit about our partners ...

Residence Dining is a distinct division of Hospitality Services along with Campus Eateries, Conference Services, Great Hall Catering, Vending Services, and Thompson Recreation and Athletic Centre . While each area has its individual market sector, we are part of the same team, working toward common goals.

In our six residence operations, we are "home" to over 4,000 students who usually join us for 3 meals a day, 7 days a week throughout the academic year. We become part of their family and we strive to make each of their dining experiences a positive one.

With a keen focus on leaving a lighter footprint on our planet, we're working together with other departments, associations and clubs on campus, to improve environmental issues and concerns here at Western.
