Welcome to our iBEAN site. The place for bean facts at Western - where you'll find bean information to your heart's content (literally). And you've gotta' love them! They've been an important staple in our diets for thousands of years and may indeed be nature's original "functional food". They're naturally low in fat and pack a nutritional punch. They're higher in protein than most other plant food and loaded with both soluble and insoluble fibre. Beans contain a myriad of essential vitamins and minerals (i.e., iron, zinc, calcium and folate), are low on the glycemic index (keeping you fuller longer) and they're pretty cheap to boot! Need I say more?

Once thought to be the protein of choice for vegetarians, we're now all being advised to consume legumes (dried peas, beans, lentils and chickpeas) much more often. So take a look at what this iBEAN site has to offer. You're sure to come away with a reason or two as to why you should make beans more a part of your healthy lifestyle.
